Do you know where your kids are
... on the Internet?
This can be a haunting question to parents who have Internet Access in their homes!
The Internet, the "Information Super Highway", the "Ultimate Information
Resource of the New Millenium", is full of inappropriate material for children. By simply going to a search engine like www.HOTBOT.com, you can enter in the search word "Cheerleader" or "big" and receive an abundance of pornographic sites links.
The Internet population is growing by 67,000+ persons a day! Children are gaining access to the "net" through schools, libraries, and their friends houses. A virtual explosion from 2.1 million children in 1998 to a projected 20.2 million in 2002 is taking place.
In schools today, the kids are trading IP addresses. An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a numeric way to access a web site. Instead of entering http://www.playboy.com, they just enter in http:// 206.251.29.10. Parents and educators see these numbers and don't realize they are trading the addresses of xxx-rated Pornography, Hacking, Bomb making, drug, hate, and other inappropriate sites.
Many have tried software that resides on the computer and works off of key word recognition or a URL (uniform resource locator) data base. At best, the software will block about 85% of the sites.
The leading method of filtering today is call "Server Side Proxy Filtering". This is accomplished by the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and done through computers located at the source of the access. By allowing the ISP to provide the filtering, the consumer does not have to manage software or worry about their child uninstalling or corrupting the programs by deleting key components.
Family.Net is a national Filtered Internet Service provider offering this service. Family.Net blocks access to the inappropriate content on the Internet in order to assist parents in the protection of their children.
"Kids today are very computer savvy", says Family.Net's General Manager, Steven Carr.
"I talk to parents everyday who find pornographic sites in the history of their
Internet browsers. "The young people are smart enough to cover their tracks too. I know, I have two (2) teenage sons."
Family.Net's Filtered Internet Access is available in over 400 cities across the US and is growing daily. "Family.Net is the answer to parents concerns about giving their kids access to the Internet", says Carr.
"We block access to Bomb Making, Adult Content, Nudity, Sex, Violence,
Drugs, Tobacco and Alcohol, Language, Discrimination, Crime, Taste-lessness, Chat Sites, Free email, Web Site Hosting, Adult Check Services, Gambling, and Message Boards
.just about anything that a parent would not want their children viewing on the Internet is what we block."
With hundreds of new objectionable sites coming on line everyday, Family.Net's technicians work hard to stay on top of the growing Internet. "We also provide access to many of the private schools and they love us! It is the right service for the right reasons. Managed Internet is also a useful business tool. It increases productivity and decreases liability in the work place."
